Not a Student but Student Aged and Live in Hull
Hey dead community bros,

I'm a 21 year old girl and I just moved to Hull.
I'm I guess a windswept and interesting character, I come from Canada, have lived all around Canada, and last year I moved here for my partner in Manchester, with whom I am now having some troubles and so that's why I'm here in Hull.

UH SORRY TO GET TMI/SOCIALLY MALADJUSTED ON YOU OR SOMETHING I'M ACTUALLY REALLY PRETTY COOL I PROMISE

Okay so, I'm a shy and kind of quirky internet, sci-fi and videogame nerd, I like to draw stuff all the time, I have a boring Canadian accent, and I want to meet some people around my age to chill out and have some coffee with every now and then. Maybe see some movies with or play some games together something like that. I'm not a crazy axe-murderer or anything.

tl;dr dorky internet person is looking for some frands

PS Please ignore the emo bullshit on my LJ right now, as I said, probs with the partner goin' on right now and I'm definitely not normally whiny like that.

I have AIM and junk if you want to chitchat it up some time.

Later dudes

Some photos I took this week in Rudston and its environs. Hull Students. It's a short drive from Hull. Make the trip and see something truly spectacular.

Behind the cross you can see a 4,000 year old neolithic monolith which stands 25 feet tall.

Room available

There is a spare room to let in a seven bedroom student house on Fitzroy Street (just off Bev Rd.) in Hull for the academic year 08-09.  The contract starts 26th August.  Rent is only £59pw and this includes all utility bills and broadband access.  The house is within walking distance of both the university and the city centre, with plenty of shops and bars nearby.  The other six housemates are all very friendly, welcoming people.

If anyone is interested, or knows of anyone else who might be, please comment/message me on livejournal.
Thanks,
xxx

Guys.. raise a glass for Dooge tonight. A true Hull legend.
I went to his funeral today and it was good to see a few of the old punks there :)
He was well loved. It's a shame few gave him much time.
I used to play guitar in a band with him and I saw a genuine streak of genius there sometimes.
He was just too wild to focus it I guess.
Raise a glass to him! and if you never knew him.. raise a glass anyway.. to freedom and peace and love!

Shine on you crazy diamond.

new hull blog, 'chipspice'
Hello dead community (again),
I recently started a blog about hull, called 'Chip spice' because that's a thing that makes people think of Hull. Clever, eh? Anyway, go and take a look, it's not as good as it could be because I'm very busy now but I try my best and sorry for the blatant advertising xxx

By the way if anyone is going to the adelphi on Tuesday look out for me and my hat!

Does anyone on here know which block at Nicholson this happened in?

Freaked me out when I heard about it. Lived there for three years back in the day.

Now then!
Ey up!

Query from a non-student (don't shoot me): I'm applying for the Ahead/Access course thingemy at Hull College, starting September 2007... But due to my age - 22 - I seem to be in a tiny, little-known loophole called 'too old, but too young'. Also known as, 'if you had a child and you were a chav you'd be living in a flat and studying for free by now, you're such a failure as a Young Person. Or, if you were 25, you could get working tax credits. But, you're not. Go away."

I left college early when I was 18 - couldn't finish my courses - due to significant lack of cash, and thought I'd put off studying til I got my finances sorted... Four years of working in call centres and I'm still broke and uneducated! The trouble is, I'm not sure I could study 15 hours, go to college 15 hours, and work full-time hours to pay the bills as well... I'd go maaaaaaaaad.

With that excessively long preamble out of the way, does anyone know how someone like me can get funding? A loan would be fine, I don't want anything for free... But higher education isn't in the same bracket as university study, and although the course requires 15 hours study as well as attending the college, I think it might count as part-time...

This is also the reason I've put off studying: It's too damn difficult to get the financial side sorted.

Please, please, somebody point me in the direction of help, else I'll be sitting in a call centre for the rest of my days, going slightly deaf...

a desperate plee
Hi, dead community!

Does anyone know of a listings site for Hull that’s (a) fairly complete and (b) not obnoxious? I dislike trawling round lots of different sites to find out what’s going on, particularly when half of them are appallingly slow MySpace pages..

Oh yes, to make this even more on-topic, I’ve been accepted into Hull Uni’s Computer Science program, starting in Sept. 2007. Hurrah!

Aargh!
I've been watching this community for a while and am so sick of looking at that same post (below) day after day - no offence to the poster, it's not your fault noone else has posted! - that I've decided to say hi and ask a question.

Does anyone on here live in a Taylor Court flat? I'm going to be staying there next year (from September) and was wondering what it's like.

Thanks guys! :o)

Try this poll I created!

What do you like to get drunk on?
This poll will contain some alcoholic drinks, and you just choose the one you like to get drunk
on the most. If you drink your favourite drink on the list with a mixer, then it still counts, since you're still getting drunk off it, and it's easier
than me adding mixers in, since people like different ones.

the fires of hull festival
Anyone know much about the “Fires of Hull” festival in April? The stuff on the adelphi‘s listings page looks ace, but i presume there’s stuff at other venues as well - anyone know of an official listings page or anything?

A Bit Of A Hello
Well what the hell.

I’m 27 and moved to Hull in the summer to start a Politics degree (much procrastinating since my teenage years has left me starting a bit later than I had originally envisaged).
I’m not exactly the most sociable of creatures, perhaps because in the recent past I’ve socialised a bit too much to the determent of work and such like and also as I’m just a bit lazy sometimes (have been found wanting on the effort front).
Anyway first semester has been okay, enjoying the course, like the uni and I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like living in Hull (I live just off Princes Avenue).
My only failing so far has been to make more friends. Haven’t really came across anyone in my tutorials or lectures whom I could really envisage being more than just acquaintances, I know that sounds incredibly snobbish or arsey but it’s really not meant in that way, just haven’t clicked with anyone.
Realising I need to make more of an effort (and been willing to do so, no more lazy arse) I thought I’d post a little message here, see if anyone’s in a similar boat and so on.

So, interests.
Well there’s a big stack of film directors, authors, bands and artists on my Live Journal page to give you an idea of specifics but yes film and music are pretty high on the agenda.
I play drums and guitar, sort of rudimentary but I play bass quite well (though it’s just not as sexy is it). I’ve played in quite a few bands in the past, don’t really feel interested in doing so in the future.
As you would expect from someone studying Politics I am really interested in the subject. I have been toying with the idea of joining the uni’s Respect society, but as yet I haven’t actually seen any meetings listed, oh well.
Drinking, eating, football (yep, afraid so) all the usual gubbins as well.

I think I’ve managed to make myself sound quite unappealing as far as friends can go but anyway, you never know. I am actually a bit more positive and motivated than I may appear here, just that Christmas brings out the depressant in me (hence the reason it’s Friday the 23rd of December and rather than me being out celebrating the festive season I’m in my old bedroom in my parents house back in Scotland typing this up).
